Purchased Leave Policy
Scope
This policy applies to all full-time and part-time permanent team members of TEG in Australia.
Purpose
The Purchased Leave Policy enables eligible team members to purchase additional leave through salary deductions. It offers greater flexibility to help you plan time away from work whether to connect and spend time with loved ones, pursue personal interests, or celebrate life’s important moments. This policy reflects our commitment to partnering with our people and supporting what matters to you.
Key Rules & Conditions
- Purchasing Leave
- Leave must be purchased between 1 June and 31 July (purchase window) for the financial year.
- Maximum Purchase
- A maximum of two weeks of purchased leave, per your working pattern at the time of purchase, is allowed per financial year.
- Eligibility & Approval
- Only full-time and part-time permanent team members may access purchased leave.
- Leave must be requested via ADP where it will be approved by the team member’s manager.
- Purchased leave is not accessible to employees serving their notice period.
- Upfront Granting & Usage
- Once approved, the purchased leave balance is granted upfront.
- Purchase leave is only available to be used when a team member has an annual leave balance of 4 weeks or less.
- Cost & Deductions
- The cost is calculated at the team member’s rate at the time of purchase* and deducted from their salary in equal fortnightly instalments.
- All deductions must be completed by the final pay period in May of the current financial year.
- If purchasing leave that will be taken in a future financial year, deductions for the leave will commence from 1 July.
- Cancellations & Changes
- Pending (not approved) Purchase Leave requests can be cancelled or changed by Employees in ESS.
- Approved Purchase Leave that requires cancellation or changes can be requested via payroll@teg.com.au between 1 July and 30 May each year.
- Leave Cash Out
- Any unused purchased leave will be automatically paid out in the final pay run of the financial year, at the team member’s rate of purchase.
- Purchased leave does not attract leave loading when paid out.
- Leave Reset & ESS Access
- Purchased leave balances reset on 1 July each financial year.
- Unused leave cannot be carried over to the following financial year.
- Termination
- Any outstanding purchased leave at the time of termination will be paid out at the ordinary rate of pay at the time of purchase.
- Future Leave Purchasing
- Team members may start purchasing leave for the next financial year from 1 June.
- Deductions begin on 1 July, and leave may only be taken once the new balance is granted.
Process
- Team members are required to email payroll@teg.com.au and specificity how many days Purchase Leave they would like to have granted (up to 2 weeks). Payroll will confirm with the team member once the leave has been granted.
- To schedule the leave the Team member must login to ESS (online leave portal) to submit their request for Purchase leave and wait for their Managers approval.
General Provisions
- Purchased leave cannot be transferred to another team member.
- No leave loading applies to purchased leave (taken, deducted, or cashed out).
- Purchased leave does not affect service-based leave accruals (e.g., long service leave, personal/carer’s leave).
- This policy is reviewed annually and may be updated at anytime at the Company’s discretion.
