How does Single Touch Payroll work?
During the current financial year, the way your income, tax and superannuation information is reported to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) changed to a new reporting system called Single Touch Payroll (STP). This means there are some changes to how you access your information.
Single Touch Payroll (STP)
STP allows your income, tax and superannuation information to be reported to the ATO every time you get paid. (Previously this information was reported to the ATO at the end of each financial year).
This change means that every time you get paid you will now be able to see in real time your year-to-date income, tax and superannuation information via your myGov account. myGov is the Australian Government’s online portal that allows you to access the ATO, as well as several other government online services.
In addition, with the introduction of STP you will no longer be supplied with a Payment Summary at the end of the financial year. Instead, the ATO have introduced a new Income Statement, which is the equivalent of a Payment Summary.
This guide will explain in more detail on how to access your income, tax and superannuation information through your myGov account.
myGov
To access your Income Statement and view your year-to-date information, log into myGov select ATO online services and follow the prompts.
